user edit links don't work

We're getting a LOT of spam on these days, and I've been erasing them systematically but want to edit the user and block the accounts used to post the messages but:

the link attached to a given username is something like:

clicking that redirects to (in my case:)

something in the proxying/relaying/something is wrong, and I'm having to do copy/pasting of links, adding https:// to the user url and so on.

yeah, I've seen this too, but it's like whack-a-mole. Even if you disable the accounts, the spam keeps coming in. Do they have the Drupal account creation process automated, or is someone paid to do this stuff manually? Seems like the best approach is to just make the commonly spammed pages read-only after a while. Is there a better way?

It is broken, but if you just type in twice you finally get to that page and then you can disable the account.
