#7490 closed enhancement (patchwelcome)

InlineEditBox: allow the client to choose whether to match the geometry of the original field.

Description (last modified by bill)

Ideally, the InlineEditBox edit mode elements will match the width and height of the original field. There are certainly conditions where this won't be desirable (you don't want edit fields running off the page) so it should be the client's choice based on the unique situations they are designed for.

I can't imagine when an edit field would run off the page, since the view version presumably doesn't run off the page, but I guess we could obey an explicit style setting in the editorParams attribute.

But can you give some examples where this would be needed?

Oh, there's a width parameter to control the editor's width, so this is already partially supported. See also #10758.
