when porting, would it make sense to separate the always-show functionality from the auto-expand functionality? At least the name is confusing given that it does both things.

Status: newclosed

Closing this ticket as its related one, remove the iframe, has also been closed as we don't expect it to be done in the forseeable future. The iframe provides many benefits that are valuable to the RTE behavior. It's also worth noting that most other RTE also use iframes, most likely for content segregation.
