Dojo Trac instance "login as guest" limitation may deter community participation

Description

Perhaps the project feels like it has plenty of developer support and community participation already, but I feel that the current limitation of the Trac instance (to logging in as guest) discourages participation from newcomers to the community. I understand that you may have been suffering from some spam, but almost every other project I've participated in has been able to overcome this hurdle - if Trac doesn't meet your needs, perhaps you should consider another system.

There are two reasons for my belief that the current limitation is a deterrent: 1) Normally when you report a bug in an open source bug tracker, you automatically get emailed on status updates for that bug. The current limitation puts the onus on the reporter to try and track the status of the bugs they report.

2) Part of the "reward" of reporting bugs is to gain credit for finding that bug and taking the time to report it; when all bugs are reported by "guest" or by a closed developer community, that minor reward is taken away and the difference between the existing developers and newcomers is emphasized. In addition, it becomes harder for someone outside of that community to be seen as worth bringing into that community, because their contributions are less visible.

Agreed, people are missing out on a lot with the current setup, but the trac system is the wrong place to discuss open ended things like this. It's been very frustrating for us as well, but the spam was too much to take. We're always looking for better ways to deal with this. Please feel free to raise the issue on the forums.
