As per Dijit's design goal to control all styling through CSS, I'm thinking to just apply the id and class of the dialog to the dialog underlay, so that

<div id="id1" class="class1" dojoType="dijit.Dialog">

will set the underlay such that

id="id1_underlay"  class="class1_underlay"

(In [11722]) Allow custom styling for dialog underlay via CSS rules, based on id or class of Dialog. Fixes #4846.
