#4092 closed defect (wontfix)

FilteringSelect - When selecting a new value the text box needs to display the full value

In FilteringSelect when choosing a new value the text box needs to be wide enough to hold the full text. The screen reader is only going to read the text that is visible in the text box.

Things would improve somewhat if focus was fired on the list items in the list box since the list box is a bit wider but it would probably be much easier to widen the text box during the selection process to be as wide as the longest possible choice, or if that can't be determined at least quite a bit wider than it currently is.

Hmm, I have no idea how you can guarantee the text box to be wide enough given that 1) we don't know how big the font will be 2) the drop down list is from a database so we don't know how long the elements are going to be ahead of time.

I think we can live with this so am closing. Any input where the text is longer than the input field has this issue. I agree that we can not know the maximum length of the data even if the font size was static. It would not be acceptable to have the size of the input field change in response to the data as that might reflow the page and could also be very distracting.
