No way to get HTML to validate with alternative namespaces

There is no way to get HTMl to validate if you use an alternative namespace other than dojo. Ussually if using a widget in the dojo namespace you could do the following to get the HTML to validate:

<span class="dojo-Thingy">This is a thingy!</span>

If you used your own namespace like acme, then you are forced to use the following to create the widget from markup:

<span dojoType="acme:Thingy">This is a thingy, that will not validate :( </span>

Can you be specific as to why the second example will not validate? Isn't it still just a span?

You may also use the alternative markup of <acme:Thingy>...</acme:Thingy> with the appropriate namespace declarations and an XHTML file type, if desired.
