#18145 assigned enhancement

_HasDropDown: provide a maxWidth property

Reported by: gorgoroth Owned by: bill

Description

The forceWidth and autoWidth properties do not cover all usability cases. In some of this cases it has been necessary to limit, with autoWidth property enabled, the drop-down horizontal extent inside a viewport and avoid going beyond the right edge.

Why is that? Is the anchor node itself going outside the viewport?

It's the dropdown that is too large in width (if autoWidth is active) and goes outside the right edge of the browser viewport. Normally the drop down width is as large as the largest entry in the list. Having a maxWidth property could limit the width of the dropdown.

OK, and why can't you use forceWidth in that case?

Because forceWidth property forces the dropdown width to the width of the widget. What I want, instead, is the behaviour of autoWidth but limited to the width specified in the maxWidth property value, if the autoWidth makes the dropdown width grows over maxWidth value.

It sounds like maxWidth, like maxHeight, should have a -1 value to limit the width to the space available in the viewport.
