I think it has to do with rtl being rendered differently in IE than other browsers (rtl with ltr language is undefined?)

Could be. It's definitely acting strangely. If I click the toggle button and then click anywhere in the sentence, the caret immediately jumps to the end of the sentence.

Problem with the caret jumping still happens on trunk (essentailly, 1.10 beta) on IE9. The caret doesn't jump on IE10 though. Presumably the regression test is still failing on IE9 too although I'm having trouble running any regression tests on IE9 now; some problem with robot I think.

Oh actually this seems to be fixed starting in 1.8, and the caret jumping problem is fixed starting with 0e535339c4baf60630e718e09cd8d49ec7069f22 in 1.10.
