TabContainer: scrolling tab left/right/menu buttons' tooltips not visible for (IE6, HC)

Description (last modified by bill)

In themeTester.html (tested on IE6 in high-contrast mode, with browser window narrow enough to enable scrolling tabs), hovering the left/right/menu buttons of the TabContainer shows a tooltip but it's just a box, not a word or a letter.

In non-high-contrast mode, no tooltip is shown at all.

Becky, do you know if we need to show tooltips for those buttons?

PS: the relevant markup for those buttons in high contrast mode is:

<span class="dijitButtonText dijitDisplayNone"
dojoattachpoint="containerNode,titleNode" title="←">←</span>

It seems pointless to have a title equal to the label itself, do you agree? Do we need an actual word? The close icon for individual tabs has the word "close" on hover, so if we do the same thing here those buttons would need tooltips like "scroll left", "scroll right", and "menu".

Becky, last chance for comments, otherwise I'll just remove those tooltips.

As long as the button text is still visible in high contrast mode we can live without the tooltip in IE6 in high contrast mode. If this was a browser that worked with JAWS, I'd be a bit more concerned as I'm not sure how JAWS speaks the arrow characters. If you are considering removing the tooltips for all browsers we'll need to do some more research.

Actually, I was talking about removing the tooltips for all browsers.

I checked firefox's tabbed browsing feature, and it doesn't have tooltips for the left/right arrows. I guess they assumed that the functionality was obvious without a textual translation of the arrow graphic.

It doesn't seem like JAWS enters into the equation since those left/right arrows never get focus, do you agree?

Sorry, forgot that they don't get focus. I agree that the tooltips can be removed.
