#10193 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Add column spanning support in the GridContainer.

Reported by: BrianDelahunty Owned by: Shane O'Sullivan
Priority: high Milestone: 1.9
Component: Dojox Version: 1.4.0b

Description

Enhance the Grid Container to allow content to span columns. This would be similar to table 'colspan' and would provide the ability to allow content to be spread over more than 1 column and cause all other content to flow around it.

The ability to drag'n'drop 'spanners'! would be nice, but fixed position spanners would still provide a useful feature as visually they are typically placed at the top of a layout.

See bbc.co.uk homepage for an example layout where an immovable grid item (the headline story) is spanning 2 columns, and all other moveable items can be arranged about it.

any word on this making it into any 'future' version?

i am also looking for implementation of this enhancement so that we could have our portlet span over multiple columns of a grid container. Its fine even if those portlets are not dragable.

A patch would be needed for this enhancement request. Given that none has emerged in 3+ years, I'm going to mark it as wontfix. I would gladly consider reviewing a patch if someone wants to contribute one.
